The Organizing Committee of Malta Antioxidants Congress announced the final programs of Malta Antioxidants Congress:

Malta Polyphenols 2009:

Malta Skin-Ageing and Antioxidants 2009:

Polyphenols & Pomegranate Applications to be Showcased at Malta Antioxidants Congress

Malta Polyphenols 2009 will provide answers and give a future vision of how polyphenols can enhance human nutrition; help in the prevention and treatment of many chronic diseases; answer to many questions unclear: stability and bioavailability, targets and biological effects, metabolites efficacy and credibility in food, nutraceutic and cosmetic applications.

Pr Marvin Edeas, Chairman of the Scientific Committee and President of ISANH, highlighted the importance of the Conference:…our aim is toHighlight some of hot topics concerning polyphenols applications in human especially Stability, Bioefficacy and Bioavailability, targets (particularly mitochondria) and biological effects. The major challenge will be to elucidate the effects of polyphenols metabolites (and not only polyphenols) in human; we need urgently to undertake clinical studies with these metabolites. We must link health claims to real beneficial effects of consumers. Pr Edeas added we will discuss also how to avoid speculations : Marketing must wait the scientific progress and evidences. One of the examples is Resveratrol. I’m very surprised that many products with Resveratrol available in the market with a magic claims; however we didn’t have any clinical studies and evidences of their efficacy in human.

A further session will focus on the latest advances in antioxidant ingredients that have been known for some time, such as Resveratrol, curcumin and pomegranate.

Pomegranate extracts satellite event

The aim of this Symposium is to discuss both basic science areas such as last advances on Pomegranate extracts cellular effects and molecular targets as well as clinical data, recent innovations and applications as nutraceutical, cosmetoceutical and pharmaceutical products.

The Scientific Committee will select oral communications only if the ingredient or finished product has undergone clinical studies.
